Diluted soap in sanitizing sink discovered at one restaurant in this week’s health inspections

The health inspection world grades a score below 70 as failing, and two businesses received a failing score in their recent health inspection from June 21-28.

Holiday Inn Express (food service), 444 Broad St., Augusta received a failing score of 68. Inspector’s comments included: “observed less than 100 ppm (measured in 50 ppm) in sanitizer sink; use dispenser proper concentration, do not dilute with tap water” and “need sanitizer test strips.”

Other inspector’s comments included: “PIC/CFSM must actively control temperatures of TCS food,” “post CFSM certificate in public view,” “no paper towels available at hand wash sink,” “cold TCS foods must be held at 41F or below,” “thermometers must be accurate +/- 2F; recommend alcohol thermometers (red line); need probe thermometers to take food temps,” “post in public view: permit, most recent inspection,” “observed no available ice scoop at ice machine (may need to order new),” and “repair cabinets to be smooth, easily cleanable.”

The other failing business was China City, 3128 Deans Bridge Road, Augusta with a score of 69. Inspector’s comments included: “observed raw chicken stored in container on floor with flies,” “observed raw chicken stored on floor uncovered, broccoli in walk-in cooler uncovered,” “observed cabbage being stored at 54 degrees,” “observed scoops stored in containers with food,” “observed wet mop not hung to dry,” and “observed multiple flies throughout the establishment.”

The third lowest score was a 71, and it was received by Tipsy Bar & Grill, 239 Meridian Drive, Grovetown. Inspector’s comments included: “observed employee enter kitchen without washing hands,” “observed foods in reach-in cooler stored uncovered along with meats in sink and on stove,” “observed several foods in prep area and reach-in coolers/freezer above 41 degrees Fahrenheit ranging from 45-50 degrees Fahrenheit,” “observed several open cans of vegetables and beans in reach-in cooler,” “observed employee enter kitchen from going outside to cooler and did not wash hands or change gloves nor remove original gloves,” and “observed hot water in hand sink with improper pressure.”
