Newly elected Columbia County District 2 Commissioner Jim Steed was sworn into office on Monday, Nov. 17.
Probate Court Judge Alice Padgett administered the oath of office to Steed in front of his family.
Steed won the special election for the District 2 Commission seat on Nov. 4 in a special election where he beat Howard Johnson. He is replacing Trey Allen, who resigned to take a job with the Trump administration.

“Commissioner Steed has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to serving the residents of Columbia County by previously serving on the Planning Commission, and we look forward to Commissioner Steed’s continued service to the residents of Columbia County and the leadership he will bring in the years ahead,” said a statement from Columbia County.
Steed’s first Board of Commissioners meeting will be Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 6 p.m. in the auditorium at the Evans Government Center Complex.
