Doctors Hospital of Augusta cut the ribbon on its new freestanding emergency facility in Evans, Monday.

The 10,000-square foot ER hospital, which broke ground early this year, is scheduled to open on Dec. 2, and still has a hearing on signage on Nov 20. But Monday at noon, Doctors Hospital invited guests, including Columbia County commissioners and representatives from both the Augusta Metro and the Columbia County Chambers of Commerce, to celebrate its arrival.

“This new freestanding emergency department will expand access to the same level of care and expertise as one would expect from an emergency department within a hospital,” said Dr. Samantha Newman, medical director of Doctors Hospital Evans Emergency, during her remarks. “We’re here to provide fast life-saving care, right in the Evans community, especially where that 15 minutes really matters.”

Guests were treated to tours of the hospital after the ribbon was cut, surveying 11 patient rooms, which include trauma bays, a behavioral health room and a geriatric room.

Jennifer Conley, CEO of Doctors Hospital Augusta, noted that the freestanding ER represents $15 million of a $150 million, multi-year investment by Doctors Hospital to “expand access, grow doctors facilities and strengthen healthcare quality across the CSRA.”

Doctors Hospital Evans Emergency is located at 464 N. Belair Road.
