Doctors Hospital Patient Injures Eye While Fighting Cops

Melvin Rogers, 65, of Warrenton, Criminal trespass, obstruction

Date: November 26, 2021

A Doctors Hospital patient who refused to leave after being discharged ended up with more injuries after cops arrived.

Melvin Rogers, 65, of Warrenton, had been checked out Nov. 16 when he refused to leave. It was 10:26 p.m. when Deputy Jeffrey Adams arrived and told him to finish putting on his shoes and exit the building.

Rogers stated that he did not have to leave the hospital. So Deputy Adams threatened him with arrest.

“Rogers continued to refuse and became more irate,” Deputy Adams said in his report. “I then attempted to take control of Rogers and place him under arrest. As I grabbed Rogers’ right arm, he pulled away from me then pushed forward, causing both of us to fall to the ground.”

Deputy Dillon Wright assisted Deputy Adams in placing Rogers in handcuffs. The officers attempted to lift the suspect into a standing position.

Rogers “dropped his weight causing him to fall from our grasp, at which point he struck his left eye on the floor,” the report says. “A contusion formed over his left eye but Rogers refused any medical attention from hospital staff.”

So Rogers went from the hospital to jail on charges of criminal trespass and misdemeanor obstruction.
