Doctors Hospital’s new emergency facility in Evans is nearing its time to open, and is requesting that Columbia County allow one of its finishing touches.

The hospital, along with AAA Sign Co., have requested  the county for a variance to allow for additional, three-foot exterior ER signage. County ordinances allow “miscellaneous building signs” be no larger than 0.25 square feet.

The applicants contend that as the facility’s being the “first-of-its-kind” in Columbia County, a free-standing emergency department, calls for signage that is especially visible, too large to be considered a “miscellaneous sign.”

Construction on the over 10,000-square foot, standalone emergency hospital, $15 million of $150 million series of capital projects by Doctors Hospital, started earlier this year after the medical provider successfully petitioning for setback variances at the site the previous fall.

The Planning Commission is slated to hear it on November 4. The hospital is slated to open that same month. Doctors Hospital Evans Emergency will be located at the intersection of North Belair and Hereford Farm Roads.
