Doctors Hospital Augusta’s freestanding emergency room facility currently under construction in Evans is part of an overarching initiative worth more than $150 million.

The Wheeler Road medical center, Augusta’s branch of the Nashville-based HCA Healthcare company, recently disclosed a complex of capital investments ranging from development projects to medical education.

“Doctors Hospital is committed to meeting the healthcare needs of our rapidly growing community,” said Joanna Conley, Doctors Hospital CEO, said. “As the CSRA continues to expand, so does the demand for high-quality healthcare. These initiatives will allow us to better serve our patients now and in the years to come.”

Doctors Hospital Evans Emergency, the 10,000+ square foot ER facility slated to open this fall at the intersection of North Belair and Hereford Farm Roads, represents $15 million of that series of investments.

More than $6 million will be going toward turning Doctors into a teaching hospital, developing new Graduate Medical Education (GME) and residency programs. Over $40 million is going toward infrastructure renovations, such as updates to the cafeteria and patient care units and the addition of a hybrid operating room; and equipment upgrades.

The initiative with the biggest price tag is the expansion of the hospital’s third floor Burn Tower and fourth-floor South Tower, along with renovations to the sixth-floor North Tower, at $86.5 million.

Among Doctors Hospital’s most recent additions is its new 6,300-square foot Orthopedics Center, which opened last month.‌
