Documentary to open at DuPont Planetarium

The Ruth Patrick Science Education Center’s Dupont Planetarium will host the South Carolina planetarium debut of “Backyard Wilderness,” created by Emmy Award-winning and Oscar nominated filmmakers Andrew Young and Susan Todd.

“Backyard Wilderness” will show viewers the unexpected delights of nature that in our neighborhoods and communities. 

“Backyard Wilderness” will play every Saturday throughout March at 7 p.m. at the DuPont Planetarium located on the USCA campus. This is a family-friendly film. 

The film follows Katie and her family who are distracted by their busy lives and electronic devices, not knowing the diverse wilderness outside in her backyard. Throughout the film, Katie experiences nature in her own backyard. Viewers can experience these discoveries along with Katie through stunning visuals and vivid cinematography. 

“Backyard Wilderness is all about the wonders of discovery,” said John Hutchens, Science Education Center director of special programs. “We live busy lives in a technology-dependent society and sometimes we get tunnel vision. We forget that life enthusiastically goes on, in incredible diversity and beauty, right under our noses.”
