Dogs top Gamecocks on the road

Date: March 06, 2025

Georgia (19-11, 7-10 SEC) continued their late season surge with a 73-64 win over South Carolina (12-18, 2-15) on Tuesday night before 11,633 fans at Colonial Life Arena in Columbia, S.C.

The Bulldogs jumped out early and never trailed, building a 14-point lead in the Southeastern Conference game before allowing South Carolina to get within 2 points with 9:24 remaining. However, the Gamecocks then went over six and a half minutes without connecting on another field goal as Georgia pulled away.

The Bulldogs were led by current SEC player of the week Silas Demery Jr., who pumped in 16 points and grabbed 8 rebounds.  Blue Cain and Asa Newell contributed 14 and 11 points, respectively, for the Bulldogs.

South Carolina forward Collin Murray-Boyles continued his hot streak by scoring 24 for the Gamecocks, his fourth straight game with 20 or more points.

Georgia outrebounded the Gamecocks, 37-23 and took advantage by adding 11 second chance points. The Bulldogs bench also outscored South Carolina’s substitutes, 24-9.

“South Carolina is a very, very good team,” said Georgia head coach Mike White. “Murray-Boyles is one of the toughest matchups in the country. They’re so disciplined with their half-court defense.”

The Tuesday night win gives Georgia a sweep over the Gamecocks in the regular season, having also defeated South Carolina, 71-60, in Athens on Jan. 28.

Georgia and South Carolina will both close out the regular season on Saturday. The Bulldogs tip off at noon (ESPNU) against Vanderbilt in Athens, while the Gamecocks travel to Knoxville to face #4/4 Tennessee at 2 p.m. (SEC Network).
