Dr. Jermaine Whirl, President of Augusta Technical College, is entering the new year with a memorable statewide recognition under his belt.

The academic leader has been named to “Georgia Trend” magazine’s 2025 catalog of notable Georgians, his first time making this list which “represents the best qualities of leadership, power, character and influence the state has to offer, while making a significant impact in the Peach State over the years.”

However, this isn’t Dr. Whirl’s initial appearance in the magazine; he was also selected for the publication’s “40 Under 40 award” in 2024 and has been recognized in the 500 most influential leaders in Georgia listing three times.

Still, the honor means for Dr. Whirl another chance to highlight the changes that have been made and milestones reached at Augusta Tech during his presidency, including campus renovations, new academic programs and increased enrollment numbers.

“To be on this list…it really reflects the past four years of work that we have done collectively…the transformative work that we are doing,” he said.

He said he was “shocked” when he learned he had been included in the list.

“[There are] significant dignitaries on that list from across the state doing incredible work and I’m just honored to be on there…it’s a huge humbling honor to be associated with those individuals,” said Dr. Whirl.

“Georgia Trend” is a magazine centered around Georgia business, politics and economic development and can be viewed online
