Dunkin Donuts and an accompanying strip could be coming to south Augusta.

Piyush Patel, owner of a Dunkins shop on Furys Ferry Road in Martinez, has petitioned to rezone 3416, 3430 and 3438 Mike Padgett Hwy., three parcels near the intersection of Mike Padgett and Marvin Griffin Road, from Agricultural (A) and Light Industrial (LI) to  General Business (B-2).

In an accompanying narrative document, Bo Slaughter of local engineering firm James G. Swift & Associates explains that the applicant plans to build a 7,200 square foot retail strip that will include 50 parking spaces.

Concept plans attached to the application show the proposed building comprised of five retail spaces, including an 1,800 square foot Dunkin Donuts with a drive-thru on one side, and another space the same size at the other end, with two 1,200-square foot spaces in between.

The site, owned by the Fulcher family, was formerly the location of renowned Augusta seafood spot T’s Restaurant, which closed after a fire in fall of 2020. The property went up for sale in February of this year.

The Augusta Planning Commission is scheduled to consider the rezoning during its meeting on Jan. 5.
