Early voting started in Richmond and Columbia counties Monday

Early voting prior to the Nov. 8 election began in Richmond and Columbia counties Oct. 17.

Local races to watch include Richmond County school board contests and Richmond County Tax Commissioner.

“We had a line waiting for us when the doors opened at 8:30 a.m., and it continued throughout the day,” said Travis Doss Jr., executive director of the Richmond County Board of Elections, in an email.

The influx of early voters brought a few waits throughout the day.

“I think the longest anyone had to wait was about 40 minutes, but it was steady all day long,” he said.

Richmond County races include District 2 School Board: Larry Fryer; Charlie Hannah; Yiet S. Knight; District 3 Walter Eubanks; District 6 Tyrique Robinson; District 7 Brittiany Broadwater, Charlie Walker Jr.; District 9 Venus D. Cain, Christopher Mulliens; for Tax Commissioner   Veronica Freeman Brown; T. Chris Johnson; Sanford Loyd; and Soil & Water Conservation District Supervisor Charles “Charlie” Byrd, Jr., Dan Scott.

Early voting continues from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Municipal Building through Friday, Oct. 28. and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22 and 29. The satellite sites of Warren Road Community Center; Henry Brigham Community Center and Robert Howard Community Center will be open Oct. 29.

From Oct. 31 to Nov. 4, all four sites will be open extended hours from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.  For this election, voters can also cast their ballots from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 30, at the Municipal Building.

Voters in Richmond County will have the chance to wear a special sticker showing they went to the polls early.

Early voting is also taking place in Columbia County from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Oct. 22 and 29 at  610 Ronald Reagan Dr. Building G3, Evans; and Euchee Creek Library, 5907 Euchee Creek Dr. Grovetown.

Other Georgia races include the gubernatorial race between Republican incumbent Gov. Brian Kemp and challenger Stacey Abrams and the U.S. Senate matchup between Raphael Warnock and Herschel Walker.
