Nicolas Echavarria of Colombia lifts the Par 3 Contest trophy following a playoff during the Par 3 Contest prior to the start of the 2025 Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club, Wednesday, April 09, 2025.
Nicolas Echavarria was crowned the winner of the Par 3 Contest at the Augusta National Golf Club following a two-hole playoff on Wednesday, April 9.
Echavarria and J.J. Spaun finished tied for first at five under par of 22 after 9 holes and headed into the playoff. Echavarria managed to clinch the win when he scored a birdie on the second playoff hole. With this win, Echavarria, of Colombia, becomes the first player representing a South American country to win the Par 3 Contest. He also became the 12th player to win the Par 3 Contest in his first attempt. This was the 22nd time the Par 3 Contest went into a playoff.
Three competitors scored holes-in-one in the 2025 Par 3 Contest: Tom Hoge on No. 4, Keegan Bradley on No. 6 and Brooks Koepka on No. 6. Since the start of the Par 3 Contest in 1960, there have been 115 total holes-in-one made.
“It was, like I’ve been saying, up there with my favorite moments of my golf career, maybe my life,” Keegan Bradley said about his ace on hole No. 6. “That was really fun to be there with my family, it really was special. I’ll never forget that.”
“It was cool. I made one a couple of years ago, but just trying to appreciate these moments,” Hoge said about his hole-in-one. “I missed last year here, so it’s cool to be back. Never know if you’ll be back for this, but it’s cool he (his son) was with me.”
Hoge, who also made a hole-in-one on No. 8 in 2023, became the 16th player to have multiple holes-in-ones on the Par 3 Contest throughout his career. The other players to have more than two are Gary Player with four and Ben Crenshaw with three
Competing in the Masters this year are identical twins Rasmus and Nicolai Højgaard, who shot 25 (two-under par) and 26 (one-under par), respectively, in the Par 3 Contest. The Højgaard brothers are the first pair of brothers to participate in the Par 3 Contest since Franceso and Edouardo Molinari in 2012.
Trophies are awarded to the winner and to the contestants who place their tee shot nearest the flagstick on each of the nine holes. Those who received trophies in the 2025 contest were:
Hole No. 1: Adam Schenk with seven inches from the flagstick
Hole No. 2: Noah Kent (A) with 25 inches from the flagstick
Hole No. 3: J.J. Spaun with 18 inches from the flagstick
Hole No. 4: Tom Hoge with a hole-in-one
Hole No. 5: Davis Riley with three inches from the hole
Hole No. 6: Keegan Bradley and Brooks Koepka with holes-in-one
Hole No. 7: Larry Mize with 15 inches from the hole
Hole No. 8: Bryson DeChambeau with five inches from the hole
Hole No. 9: Nicolai Højgaard with 49 inches from the hole
With his win Wednesday, the question is if Echavarria can now break what is jokingly called the “Par 3 curse” as no player who has won the Par 3 Contest has won the Masters in the same year.
The 2025 Masters Tournament will start on Thursday, April 10 at 7:25 a.m. with honorary starters Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and Tom Watson teeing off on hole No. 1. Coverage of the first and second rounds will be broadcast on ESPN on Thursday and Friday from 3-7:30 p.m., along with on the Masters app and masters.com.
