Hearty congratulations go to Lynn Bailey, who was selected by the Augusta Commission on Feb. 18, to be the next chairperson of the Augusta-Richmond County Elections Board.
Bailey was among three names nominated by the local legislative delegation to assume the position; while the other two names submitted, Eugene Beverly and Mary Jones, no doubt had excellent qualifications, Bailey was, as we say, a “no-brainer.”
Bailey served as elections director for 28 years mainly under the tutelage of the legendary Linda Beazley and trained her own deputy, Travis Doss, to take over the post when she retired.
Throughout her tenure, elections in Augusta have run smoothly without a hint of controversy and Bailey always made herself available to voters to answer any questions regarding the voting process.
The Board of Elections is composed of two members nominated by the Republican party and two by the Democratic party with a chairperson who is non-partisan.
The Augusta Commission wasted no time in unanimously deciding that Bailey was the right person for the job and we whole-heartedly agree.
