There is one constant in the news business and that it is ever changing. It never stops evolving and moving with the pace of culture.
The manner with which we gather news changes constantly with both technology and the ever-changing definition of what exactly constitutes the “public interest.”
The one thing that has not changed, and hopefully never will change, is the key ingredient of journalism’s life blood: credibility.
Without credibility, The Augusta Press, would simply be the embodiment of the epithet that disgraced former Mayor Hardie David enjoyed hurling our way, “That trashy little blog.”
Credibility cannot be established overnight, yet it can be lost in a New York minute. All it takes is one erroneously published statement or one lapse in judgement to bring down years worth of established trustworthiness.
One good barometer of credibility is the Georgia Press Association awards. This is not an event where the latest fashions are paraded on a red carpet but rather an evening of celebrating excellence in a career path that demands such.
We were excited and proud that our team of journalists, photographers and editors were honored with 14 awards from their peers; we feel that TAP remains at the top of our field, displaying journalistic integrity and even, at times, helping set the benchmark.
Congratulations to our staff for a job well done.
