Editorial: One last chance

Date: May 20, 2024

Early voting has been strong so far in Augusta/Richmond County with the Election Board announcing that about 7.8% of eligible registered voters participated in early voting either in person or by absentee.

This is a good indication voters understand that this is an important election that could change the faces and policies of Augusta. With the mayor’s vote on the ballot, this might be the most important county-wide vote since consolidation, some 30 years ago.

Those numbers are down from 2022 when over 10% of all eligible voters went to the polls. However, considering this is a local election and a partisan primary for some offices, the turnout so far has been respectable.

With no problems reported throughout early voting, it really only takes the average person 10 minutes to cast a ballot.

Citizens have one final day to vote (tomorrow), and we urge everyone, no matter what candidates or policy changes you support, to come out,  cast a vote and swell that percentage past the 10% mark.
