A convicted felon was arrested Wednesday after bringing a gun into the Augusta Judicial Center, authorities said.
Earl Brooks, 75, was charged with carrying a weapon in an unauthorized location and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
According to authorities, Brooks had a firearm inside his bag as he entered the courthouse on James Brown Boulevard. Security officers spotted what appeared to be a weapon during the screening process.
Although Brooks somehow made it into a courtroom, his bag remained with security personnel. Officers set the bag aside and attempted to identify its owner but were unable to find identification inside.
Brooks was later located, and he admitted the weapon belonged to him. Records show he is a convicted felon, having been found guilty of carrying a concealed weapon in July 2005 in Richmond County.
The suspect remained at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center on Friday night, unable to make a $11,400 bond.
