A notification was sent out to parents on Feb. 26 regarding an incident in which a Riverside Elementary School student was showing a phone with inappropriate images to several other students at school.
Administration and the Columbia County School District Police received a report describing the suspicious situation, and upon further investigation, the phone was discovered in the student’s possession.
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Children and Family Services were also notified of the incident.
“At this time, we have contacted all of the parents of the students who were impacted directly by this incident: however, we felt it was best to keep of all of our parents informed in the event your child raises any concern or questions,” said Riverside Principal Lynn Gardner in an email statement.
The statement further stated that suspicious activity or inappropriate behavior should immediately be reported to a teacher, administrator or the Columbia County School District Police.
