Breaking records

The boys’ division saw Tommy Evans of Charles Town, W.V, card an impressive 15-under-par-198, earning himself the lowest total score in the tournament’s history. “It’s probably the best I’ve ever played over a three day stretch,” he said.

In the girls’ division, Kallyn Black of Greensboro, Ga, secured a victory with a total of 8-under-par-205.

Black reflected on her experience, sharing, “It’s super special, I mean, playing in this event is great and just me being out here and supporting it, it’s been a great week.”

An opportunity to chase dreams

For tournament host and PGA Tour professional Vaughn Taylor, competitions like these are all about inspiring the next generation of golfers.

“This tournament is just an opportunity for kids to chase their dream of playing golf in college and you know, hopefully continue on to the pros,” Taylor said. “If you want to play at the next level or, you know, play well, you’ve got to play in tournaments…you’ve got to get out, travel, play different courses, play against different kids, put yourself in a different environment and see how you perform. That way you can build on each performance.”
