Evans High lay coach terminated for inappropriate relationship with student

An Evans High School coach is facing criminal charges stemming from an inappropriate relationship with and a student.

According to a notice from Columbia County School District, Montel Watters, a lay coach for Evans High School, has been criminally charged after Columbia County School District Police investigated an inappropriate relationship between him and an Evans High student.



According to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office inmate search, Watters was booked on a charge of improper sexual contact by teacher/principal/asst principal and a bond of $5,100 was set.

On Oct. 26, school administration were notified of a report of an inappropriate relationship between Watters and a student that occurred off campus.

Columbia County School District police were immediately contacted to investigate. Watters.

According to the statement sent out Tuesday evening, Watters “will no longer be working with the team or school in any capacity.”
