If you hear explosions today (Thursday, April 21) and you live near Furys Ferry Road in Evans, don’t worry. It’s just road construction.
Crews are blasting stone to make way for the expansion of Furys Ferry Road between Oleander Trail and Millstone Drive, said Cassidy Harris, spokeswoman for the Columbia County government.
“It shouldn’t last too long. It usually takes an hour or so,” Harris said.
Residents may hear or feel the blast. The controlled blasting will be supervised by the E.R. Snell company, which is widening the road.
The area where the blasting will happen is near the Jones Creek subdivision’s Willow Lake and the Hindu temple called the Swaminarayan Mandir. Southern Pines Drive and the Christ Church Presbyterian lie just southwest of the blasting zone.
