Evans High School football defeated Greenbrier at home by a score of 28-7 on Friday, Sept. 2.
The Knights all played with heavy hearts after the mother of Evans’ football Coach Barrett Davis passed away Aug. 26. Evans and Greenbrier players and fans stood for a moment of silence in her honor Friday evening.
Both teams failed to score in the first quarter.

The Knights struck first with a long 55-yard rushing touchdown by Rayshaun King. Kicker Tyler Wallace added the extra point to make the score 7-0 with 5:15 left in the second quarter.
The Knights would look to add another score late in the second quarter, driving down inside the Wolfpack’s 5-yard-line, but time would expire before they could get the play off. Knights led 7-0 at the half.

Evans’ quarterback DJ Walton helped extend the Evans’ lead to 14-0 with a short touchdown pass to wide receiver Jermichael Ambrose.
Midway through the third quarter, the Knights struggled with penalties. After three flags on the Knights’ defense, Greenbrier quarterback Brooks Kramer ran in the 6-yard rushing touchdown for the Wolfpack. Kicker Keegan Morgan added the extra point to make the score 14-7 with 5:35 left in the third quarter.

With six seconds left in the third quarter, Walton broke off for a 58-yard rushing touchdown to make the score 21-7 going into the third quarter.
The Wolfpack failed to convert a fourth down attempt in scoring position at the Knights 16-yard line midway through the fourth quarter.
Walton scrambled for another rushing touchdown with 5:56 in the fourth, putting the game out of reach at a score of 28-7.
Evans’ offensive tackle Stephen Heard was announced the player of the game.
Evans (2-0) will travel to play Burke County Friday, Sept. 9. Greenbrier (0-3) will travel to Lakeside also next Friday.
