Plans for an Evans commercial development at the intersection of Ronald Reagan Drive and North Belair Road is pushing forward.

Evans Society Investment Group, LLC first submitted to the planning department its plans for “Evans Society Center,” a proposed shopping plaza behind the Columbia County Performing Arts Center, November of last year.

The new mixed-use retail center would consist of two buildings, totaling 10,000 square feet, suitable to house a variety of businesses such as restaurants—including a drive-thru café Goat Kick Coffee—boutiques and professional offices.

Evans Society Investment initially applied for a major revision, as the 1.2-acre parcel is already zoned for planned unit developments. The revision was approved by the Columbia County Planning Commission in December 2021, and then the Board of Commissioners on Jan. 4. The current revision request, scheduled on the agenda for the Planning Commission’s Aug. 4 meeting, to modify sign allowance to make way for Goat Kick Coffee’s signage.

Redeemer Presbyterian Church is also seeking a major planned unit development revision for the sake of expansion. On July 8, the church requested to revise the current S-1 special zoning of its property at 2540 William Few Pkwy.

According to the narrative document included with the application, Redeemer Presbyterian, which also runs a Christian day school, plans to go into the second phase of its development project make additions on its 26 acres. One of those additions is a proposed new two-story, 30,000 square academic building, for grades first through fifth. The church’s zoning request is also on the Planning Commission’s agenda for Aug. 4.

The owners of Gas Pro #3 in Grovetown want to run for 24 hours, says a variance request submitted to the Planning Department on July 8.

Parminder Singh is petitioning the county to allow him to run his gas station and convenience store at 4311 Wrightsboro Rd. in order to both increase revenue and curtail burglaries, saying in the application, “We have had multiple burglaries during off hours at night, including damages to the property,” and that police were “not able to apprehend the culprits.”
