An Evans teen was arrested Saturday morning after his fast-moving vehicle left the road on a curve and killed a pedestrian walking on William Few Parkway, authorities said.
Corey McMurray, 18, was charged with vehicular homicide in the death of 26-year-old Christopher Herrin of Grovetown.
The accident happened around 6:30 a.m. Saturday on William Few Parkway at Chastain Place. The victim was walking east on William Few Parkway on the north shoulder of the road.
McMurray was traveling west on William Few Parkway “at a high rate of speed in a Kia Forte,” sheriff’s Maj. Steve Morris said.
“As the driver was negotiating a curve just prior to Chastain Place, his vehicle left the roadway for unknown reasons and struck Mr. Herrin,” Morris said. “The driver continued to travel north on the shoulder and in the grass, then crashed into the culvert on the west side of Chastain Drive, called 911 and stated he hit something in the road.”
According to Morris, Deputy Hunter Parrack passed the pedestrian about fifteen minutes prior to the accident on William Few Parkway and stated he was clearly walking off the road on the shoulder.
McMurray was charged with homicide by vehicle second degree, failure to maintain lane and driving too fast for conditions.
