Evans baseball team grabbed one win in a doubleheader in round two of the AAAAAA Georgia High School State Playoffs against Carrollton on Tuesday, May 3, at the Knights’ home stadium.
The Knights and the Trojans will face off in one more game to see who moves on to Elite Eight Wednesday at Evans at 2 p.m.
“You got to win two games, doesn’t matter which two so we just got to go out and win tomorrow,” said Evans Coach Jay Matthews.

In game one, no runs would be scored until the bottom of the third inning when Lleyton Lackey hit an RBI double to make the score 1-0. Evans added three more runs with an RBI double from Matthew Roa and a single from Ty McClintock, putting the score at 4-0.
Carrollton’s first run wouldn’t come until the top sixth when Seth Childers hit an inside the park homerun after an error by the Evans right fielder.
Starting pitcher Riley Akins for the Knights held the Trojans to one run, pitching a complete game and getting Evans the 4-1 win.

Game two would be the opposite of game one for the Knights as Carrollton began the game in the bottom of the first inning with a three-run homer by Childers.
The Trojans added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning with two more RBI base hits to make the score 6-0.
Luke Turner of the Trojans poured one more run, hitting a solo homer off the left field foul pole.
Carrollton would go on to win the game 7-0.
“We had guys in scoring position in five of the seven innings we played, so hit here or there, it’s a totally different ball game,” Matthews said. “Four off there runs came on homeruns, so that’s things we feel will be able to eliminate tomorrow.
Wednesday’s winner will advance to play Pope in the Elite Eight of AAAAAA GHSA playoffs.
