Evans was declared the winner over Cross Creek with a thunderstorm-shortened 14-6 result on Friday, Aug. 20 at Blanchard Stadium.

The two teams could not come up with a make-up date. Thus, the Knights were the winners in the first Friday of the season.

Evans came out strong with a 61-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Tyler Perry from quarterback Kaleb Jackson on the first play from scrimmage. Tyler Wallace added the extra point to make it 7-0.

On Evans’ next drive, Joe Hampton carried the ball twice for 36 yards and scored on a 15-yard run. Wallace kicked the extra point to make it 14-0.

On the ensuing kickoff, Zaccheus Cone of Cross Creek returned the ball 84 yards to the Evans 10-yard line.

The Razorbacks scored four plays later on a 2-yard run by running back Johnathan Campbell. Cross Creek went for the two-point conversion, but the pass failed, making the score 14-6.

With 4:07 remaining in the first quarter, the game went into a lightning delay and the Knights were in scoring territory once again at the Razorback 6-yard line.

Game officials waited nearly two hours before calling the game.
