Two roads in the Evans Towne Center area will temporarily close Thursday for this year’s Christmas in Columbia County event, according to a county announcement.
Main Street and Market Street will close to all traffic beginning at 7 a.m. on Dec. 4 and will remain closed until midnight.
County officials said the closures are intended to reduce pedestrian and vehicle conflicts during the event. Heavy foot traffic is expected in and around Evans Towne Center Park, particularly during arrival and departure times.
Drivers in the area are urged to stay aware of their surroundings, follow all traffic control devices unless instructed otherwise by law enforcement, and watch for pedestrians, “especially children, darting out into the roadway unexpectedly,” the county stated in a press release.
Pedestrians are encouraged to cross only at marked crosswalks or intersections unless directed differently by law enforcement.
