Expired food stored at one restaurant discovered in this week’s health inspections

The health inspection world grades a score below 70 as failing, and while no restaurants received a failing score from Jan. 29-Feb. 2, two did get scored in the 70s. 

Rendezvous at Three, 1524 Gordon Highway, Augusta, received a 77, the lowest score this week. Comments from the report included “observed food stored with old labels, some with no labeling,” “observed expired milk, barbecue sauce, ketchup and sweet chili in RIC,” and “observed flies in bathroom and bar area.” 

Other comments included: “observed cheese, lettuce, cheese sauce and tomatoes cold holding at temperature above 41 F,” “observed expired Selfserv certification,” “observed oil stored on floor in kitchen,” “observed most recent inspection not posted,” “observed scoops stored in pan of mac & cheese,” “observed mop improperly stored,” “observed hole in ceiling and wall in bathroom near kitchen,” and “observed no lighting in WIC.”

The other score in the 70s belonged to Country Inn & Suites Pool, 103 Sherwood Drive, Augusta, which received a 79. Inspector’s comments included: “entrance to pool must self-close and latch,” “reduce combined chlorine to <0.4 ppm,” and “need test kit available for use be person checking pool when CPO not present.”

The third lowest score was 82, belonging to Carole Fabrics, 633 Northwest Frontage Road, Augusta. Inspector’s comments included: “observed black buildup inside the ice shoot and around the nozzle on the front service drink machine,” “observed TCS/RTE foods held for cold holding at the front food service counter at temperatures above 41 F,” observed TCS/RTE foods held for hot holding at the front food service counter at temperatures below 135 F,” “observed wet nesting of clean dishes,” and “observed incorrect test strips for sanitizer being used.”

Inspector’s comments included: “observed ham and steak inside cooler held above 41 F.”

Inspector’s comments included: “observed blank employee health reporting agreements. Observed some employees not having employee health reporting agreement,” “observed ice machine with buildup in corners,” and “observed glass cleaner stored with paper napkins and other plastic foodware.”

Inspector’s comments included: “observed food items in reach-in-cooler by microwave in dining area not being held at 41 degrees or below” and “observed a sleeve of cups without protective barrier sitting in drawer in a small pool of water, located underneath juice dispenser.”

Inspector’s comments included: “provide soap and single-use towels at hand sinks” and “maintain cold foods at 41 degrees or below.” 

  • VFW Post #649, 2430 Windsor Spring Road, Augusta: 86

Inspector’s comments included: “observed no CFSM for establishment,” “observed out of date onions, salad dressing, and tomato juice,” “observed foot out of original containers without labels,” observed dishes that were not fully dried before being put away,” and “observed mop sink did not have a back flow device.” 

  • Benton House of Augusta, 204 Frazier Court, Augusta: 84

Inspector’s comments included: “observed pink and black buildup inside the bulk ice machine. Observed food buildup inside the microwave,” “observed salad and yogurt without use-by dates stored in reach-in-coolers,” “observed a can of Raid laying on the floor behind the 3-compartment sink in the dish washing room,” “observed scoop handle laying on top of sugar stored in dry storage,” and “observed wet nesting of clean dishes.” 

Inspections by the Georgia Public Health Department are used to make sure residents and visitors safe. These were the inspections performed between Jan. 29 and Feb. 2.
