Expired foods found in popular Augusta restaurant during inspection

The health inspection world grades a score below 70 as failing, however, no restaurants or hotels received were rewarded with a failing score from inspections on Nov. 18-22.

No health inspections from Nov. 18-22 were reported by Columbia County.

Worst scores in this week’s health inspection

This week’s lowest health inspection score was a 77 earned by a Comfort Inn & Suites, located at 103 Sherwood Drive, in Augusta.

The inspector noted seeing a dishwasher without proper cleaning steps, which resulted in a four point reduction.

“Observed dishwashing without sanitizing step,” the report stated.

The inspector also noted observing food being improperly stored and a leaky sink drain, in addition to not posting the most recent health inspection score.

“Observed potentially hazardous food cold held at greater than 41 degrees Fahrenheit,” the report stated.

Following the hotel’s inspection, the second lowest score of the week was a 87 given to Bonefish Grill, located at 2911 Washington Road, in Augusta.

The inspector reported finding several expired foods, which resulted in a four point reduction.

“Observed mayo (11/14/24), onions (11/12/24), heavy cream (11/16/24), milk (11/15/24) and several other food items stored past their use by date,” the report stated. “Repeat violation.”

The inspector also noted observing an “employee handling fish while wearing watch on wrist,” which resulted in a three point reduction.

The third lowest score of the week was a score of 89 given to an America’s Best Value Inn, located at 441 Broad St., Augusta.

From the inspection, the inspector docked four points for noticing damaged bedding.

“Bedding should not have holes in it,” the report stated. “Mattresses should have a mattress cover.”

In addition, the inspector noted the hotel needing a gas fired equipment inspection and the most recent inspection score needing to be posted.
