The owner of a Harlem-based business is leading the community out of isolation with a business-family related event.

Mama’s Sweet Spot Shoppe is sponsoring a small business expo March 6 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Harlem Branch Library, 145 N Louisville St.

“I’m sponsoring this event to get other small businesses out into the community to network and gain exposure to new and familiar faces,” owner Amber King said. “In these trying times the last year brought to us, I thought a small business expo would be perfect for the small business community to come together to boost their sales.”

Combining families with local establishments, the event includes more than 50 local businesses and activities for all ages. The expo promises a visit from the Easter Bunny along with concessions, live music, a petting zoo, gem mining, mini golf, and an escape room. Admission is free to the public.

“It gets the CSRA family and friends out and enjoying the spring day, supporting all of our small business vendors,” King said. “Children can come to the event and enjoy their day as well.”

Increased vendor spacing will provide for social distancing precautions. Attendees are asked to wear masks. This is the first time King has sponsored the event.

“I hope to make this an annual event,” King said and mentioned the prospect of organizing a Christmas market later this year.

Local businesses donated items to be raffled. Proceeds from the raffle will benefit the Harlem-based organization, Attic Treasures. The nonprofit thrift store” provides monetary donations, clothing and household items to local individuals and organizations,” according to its website.

Mama’s Sweet Spot Shoppe sells specialty treats including cakes, cupcakes, dipped strawberries and bread. More information about the bakery is available at https://www.facebook.com/sweetspotshoppe/.
