I have always liked birds of any kind. When I was a youngster, I was fascinated by birds and still am. I remember that my parents bought our family a set of Compton’s Encyclopedias so that we would have a good resource for our school studies. We, of course, didn’t have a computer and Google with which we could find any answer at a moment’s notice. We actually had to study and learn from books. When we found an answer, it was not handed to us on a silver platter by a computer, but we read about it, sought it out and wrote it down. It’s better that way because one remembers what they have discovered and learned by themselves.
That Compton’s Encyclopedia had a wonderful and extensive section on birds. The photos of those marvelous creatures were beautiful. None better. I looked at them often and read of the different aspects of each kind of bird. It was something that I did often. I developed the ability to identify a bird by its color, body shape and its flying patterns and I can still do that after all of these years.
My favorite bird of all was the smallest one. I particularly liked and was amazed at the hummingbird. My, those little creatures are a miracle of God’s design. A person should take a good look at these little birds and then they will be convinced that only God could put something like that together. I like to watch the Ruby Throated hummingbirds that come to my feeder. Nothing can fly like those little hummingbirds can fly. They do things that one wonders just how in the world did that little bird do what it just did? They are aggressive little creatures that will fight with other hummers when it comes to dominating a feeder. They chase one another, chirping loudly (for them) and chasing those that are trying to invade what it considers its own feeder.
There are approximately 366 species of hummingbirds in the world. Some are larger than others with the smallest one being the Bee hummingbird. It is literally about the size of a Bumblebee. The Ruby throated is the only hummingbird that breeds in North America and it is the one that we see most often in our area of the world. An adult weighs only about one-tenth of an ounce. Its wings beat at an astounding 55 times per second and its heart beats at 600 beats a minute when active. Hummingbirds can fly forward, backward, up, down and sideways. Their wings are so designed by God that they are able to move them in different ways to achieve its marvelous abilities of flight. The wings rotate in their sockets allowing this little bird to amaze us with its flight. There is so much more that is interesting about these little birds but I don’t have the room to elucidate it in this article. Anyone doubting that there is a God should ask how these little
intricate creatures could exist if only by evolution. God had to do it.
God’s Design is perfect. Even the human body defies the evolutionist with its intricacy. There is no way all of the systems and functions of our bodies could have happened by chance. Of course, the liberal will say that “given enough time” it could have happened that we wound up being like we are. In the physical world His design is noted and people should marvel at it. Think about the fact that all animals have the same systems that allow their bodies to function properly. A Gerbil or a human has the same basic systems. Both have a circulatory system. All animals have that same system. They all have a respiratory system, a digestive system, a nervous system, a system for hearing and for sight. What are the chances for evolution to give them all the same systems. If there is a statistical chance, it is so small that it equates to no chance at all!
Our Heavenly Father has designed everything according to His specifications and that makes it amount to being perfect because He designed it. He has also designed a perfect way for us to spend eternity with him and that way is through the sacrifice of His Perfect Son, Jesus Christ. I know that believing in Jesus and becoming a Christian is a spiritual operation but it is so perfectly designed that I call it, a Spiritually Mechanical system. There is not enough room in this article to describe if for our readers but believe me, there is a perfectly designed system for getting you into heaven which is centered on Jesus Christ crucifixion and His resurrection.
Now, think about this. We know what the plan for getting a person into heaven is but tell me the plan for getting a person out of heaven. There is a plan for getting you in but there is not a plan for getting you out of heaven. Once a person is truly saved, they possess that salvation forever. There is no way to lose salvation. There is no plan for one to do so.
So, as the Hummingbird is so perfectly designed to fly and function as it does, so is every other plan and system designed and created by the Lord. You are much more valuable than a Hummingbird. You are far more intricately designed and you are in possession of something the Hummingbird no any other creature possesses and that is a spirit. You have the capacity to know God personally and that is through becoming one of His children through faith in Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord. The plan is perfectly designed. The resulting salvation is perfectly secure. Our perfect God has taken care of us by providing a perfect method of bringing us into His Perfect Presence. So, when you see a Hummingbird and marvel at its ability to fly, just let it remind you of the degree to which God loves you and perfectly designed you. Let it also remind you of His love for you and his provision for you. Yes, I Love Hummingbirds and how they remind me of God’s perfect plan His people and His care of you and me.
