Now, before I get very far into this article, I want it understood that I value life as God says we should. He gives it and only He has the right to take it. All life is valuable and respected. When one reads these lines they will automatically think of human life but there is more life on this earth than human life. But, human life, of all life, should be respected and protected as much as possible.
I have been noticing, especially on television, the emphasis that is being put on the life of pets today. Let’s focus on our dogs and cats in this article. When I came along in life, we had a dog. It was a dog, not a human. We loved ole Pogo and felt that he was a part of the family. But, Pogo was a dog; a yard dog. He dealt with the things that dogs deal with such as fleas and ticks. He also stayed outside unless the weather in our South Georgia town of Tifton was brutally cold and then we would take Pogo inside. He loved the gas heater on a brutally cold day. Pogo would stay beside that space heater all day and never move. When the weather moderated a bit, Pogo would stand at the door and beg to go outside again. Did I mention that he was a yard dog? That’s where he wanted to be. When the weather was warm or hot (it isSouth Georgia) Pogo had a place under our house that he had made his personal domain. He wanted to stay there when he was not playing with us somewhere on the block with other kids and their dogs. Dogs, in those days were dogs. They didn’t take on a near-human status. In other words, they didn’t have strollers and a regular appointment with a veterinarian. If something happened which required attention, we doctored Pogo ourselves unless it was something that required a doctor. Pogo ate what we ate and he stayed healthy. He was not so high-bred that he was always dealing with some malady like asthma or upset bowl syndrome. He was a normal dog. We loved Pogo and he was a regular part of the family until a man ran over him with a white Cadillac in front of our house. He didn’t even stop to say he was sorry. Didn’t like that man!
In today’s world things have changed dramatically. It seems that dogs have become something to be worshipped and cared for like it was a child. In fact, I think this society we now live in has elevated pets to a near human status. If one has settled down on a given evening to watch some program on television, they will find that in only a short amount of time they will see several commercials urging people to give $19.00 a month so that animals can be rescued from horrible conditions. I think if one is going to own an animal they should take proper care of it. It should not be caged up, starved, chained to a tree or stake, left outside in brutally cold or hot weather or otherwise abused by beatings or just plain old neglect. When I see some of the dogs and cats which are featured on those ads, I feel tremendously sorry for them. I wonder how in the world anyone could treat an animal in such a way. It becomes blatantly obvious that not everyone sees the value in life the way it should be seen.
But, here’s my point. Millions of dollars are spent with these commercials urging people to give to save these animals and I wonder how many of these same people think abortion is o.k. When they talk about these poor animals and show the terrible conditions under which they suffer, I am driven to think: “Why don’t they spend their time and money producing such ads urging people to save the lives of babies who are robbed of life before they even take their first breath?” They will fight for the right to end human life. They will employ politics and the courts to insist that it is o.k. to end human life while they will beg people to give money each month to save our canine and feline friends. Something is terribly wrong here! And, it would not surprise me if I get attacked for my views but so be it. I think God would rather us protect human life before anything else. And, while it is a noble cause to help animals who have been mistreated, don’t talk to me about doing that when people who urge us to give each month to save those animals will also argue that aborting human babies is all right because the law says so. I want to remind our readers that just because something has been made legal, it does not mean that it is moral. Abortion is a sin against Almighty God no matter what the courts or congress says. But, people fall back on the fact that abortion is legal in America. That is to our detriment not our glory! When we come before the Lord to answer for life do you think He will take the excuse: “Well the Supreme Court said abortion is legal so it must be o.k.” I don’t think so!!! What man declares legal on earth does not mean that God will accept it. He isn’t going to say: “Oh, well, if the Supreme Court and the state legislatures say it’s o.k. then who am I to argue with that?”
So, what can we surmise from all of this? Let’s take a look at it. Well, it seems that the insinuation is that animal life is on a par with human life. It also strongly indicates that some people value human life on about the same scale that they ascribe to their pets. Some will take umbrage with me because I said what needs to be said to a society that is getting further away from God each day to the point that human life is fair game but not the lives of pets. Now, let me state again…..I love pets. I love dogs and cats. They make good companions for humans. They have intelligence; can think for themselves, make decisions to a point and exhibit affection. Humans must respect that but as much as one respects that, they must also value human life infinitely more. We must treasure it and protect human life from conception to death. And even when a person dies, we can respect and revere the affects of a human life well lived.
Help those poor animals that one sees on the television ads if one wants to. Nothing wrong with that. But it is deeply wrong to feel compassion on those animals and help them while, at the same time, feel that abortion is all right in our society. I feel that there is a “spirit of death” on our country because of the 65 million babies who have been killed; the vast, vast majority for convenience.
Thirty-seven million people live in the top 25 cities in America. That includes urban centers such as Atlanta, New York, Dallas, Houston Philadelphia, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco and the like. Add all those up together and we have killed 28 million more babies that all the people who live in those urban centers. I think God is mad about that and I also think that if we want to have a society that survives, we had better repent of abortion and ask God to forgive us. Then, He will lift the “spirit of death” on America and life will be radically different from what it has become in our nation.
In Biblical times, pagan nations worshipped animals. The Egyptians are a good example of this activity. They worshipped cats, dogs, beetles, snakes and other forms of animal life. When the Hebrews were at Mt. Sinai and waiting on Moses to come down after receiving the Law from God, they grew impatient and decided to have a big party and make them a golden calf to worship. They made an idol of an animal…a calf. The Biblical example is that the more pagan a people become the more they will worship animals and not the true God. Is this trend happening in America today? God forbid! It’s something to think about and beware of.
I invite everyone to read, Jeremiah 1:5. It will give great insight as to the value of human life and God’s guidance for human life as well. Before people are even conceived, God knows who they are and has a plan for them. Human beings, with the free will God gave to all, may decide to interrupt that plan and destroy that life. Shouldn’t be so and people do so to their own destruction.
