Time is not a limitless commodity.  It does not last forever.  It will be done away with like any other thing, and time is a thing.  It is a mystery to us and because we don’t have a proper view of it, we tend to treat it carelessly.  Time is used to hang events upon in history.  The reason we have history is because we have time.

Time once used does not vanish away.  Time used is still there but it is dormant.  It is known as history.  Time always moves forward.  It cannot be backed up and revisited.  Its effects can be noted and we call that historical evidence.  Time out in the future, beyond what I call the “moment of being”…(the absolute present moment), is existing but the “moment of being” has not passed by it yet.  We call the time not yet reached by the “moment of being”, the future.  This “moment” is always moving forward consuming the future and turning it into the present while laying down history (used up time) in its wake.

God sees time in a different way than we do.  All of time from the beginning to the conclusion of His plan is seen at one time by Him.  He doesn’t have to wait for something to happen for Him to know it.  He sees what we call history and the future on a single time line and he sees it in the present.  He knows all of history and all of the future at one time.

The prophets were able to see beyond the “moment of being”, (the absolute present moment) and were able to identify points in the time line that the “moment of being” had not yet passed.  We call that prophecy.  Their prophecies were always correct because the “moment of being” finally passed by the event they had seen and we call that the fulfillment of prophecy.  The “moment of being” passes by a foreseen time line event automatically converting it into historical evidence.  Then it continues on its way consuming the time line moment by moment.  You became a historical figure when the “moment of being” passed by your birth which was on God’s time line long before you were conceived.

In Jeremiah 1:5 we are told something astounding to many people.  The Word says: “Before I formed you in the womb and before you came out of the womb, I knew you and ordained you a prophet unto the nations.”  What it tells us is something that most people never think about.  God knew you before you were conceived and before you entered history.  He even knows your life before you live it.  And, He knows your eternal destiny (where you will spend eternity) before you pass from the historical dimension and enter eternity when you die.  He does not make you go to either heaven or hell but he knows what you will do in your free will that will determine your eternal destiny.  The moment you leave time and enter eternity is known only by God and He has made preparations for those who choose to follow Christ in faith.  That destination for the believer is what we call heaven.  The destination of those who decide against Christ as they are faced with a choice is called hell and a person does not want to go there.

All of our life history is dependent upon that thing which is in shorter supply than we might think.  Many times the historical existence of a person is cut short because of what we might call an accident.  Time suddenly stops for that person.  Their “moment of being” is over and they move from the present into what we call “history.”  They are no longer on the time line.  Time has ended for them and they have entered eternity.

The Bible tells us that there is coming a day when time will exist no more.  In other words, everything will suddenly become history and not active time.  Physicists tell us that time vibrates similar to sound and light waves.  Light waves determine which colors one is seeing.  Different colors….red, yellow, blue ect. are visible because the light waves are vibrating at different frequencies.  Sound waves determine which notes of music you are hearing.  The more rapid the vibration the higher the note of music a lperson would hear.  A train coming toward a person blowing its horn produces a higher sound than when it goes on by with the horn still blaring.  The waves of sound are compressed as it comes toward one and the sound is higher.  The waves of sound are stretched out as it goes on down the tracks and the resulting sound is lower.

Time vibrates in a similar manner.  One day, when God decides to end time, He will stop the vibrations and time will no longer be moving but it will stop.  There will be no more time.  There will be no place to hang historical events after God stops time from vibrating and moving along forming the time line we all live on.

That’s why when a person dies without Christ there is no hope for them.  Their time line has ceased to vibrate.  Its not moving any longer.  There is no place to hang a historical event even if that event is that a person wishes they could go back and make the right decision about Jesus, accepting Him as their savior and Lord and dedicating their life to him.  They enter history and no longer live in a “moment of being” where they could make a different decision about Jesus.

If you are reading this article, you still have your “moment of being.”  You can still make the right decision and it will become a part of your history the moment you make it.  But, if one never makes that decision, they may never be able to make it if some event in life ends their time line or if God suddenly causes time to cease.  Their “moment of being”…that fleeting moment of the “present” will be gone and it will be too late to make any decision especially the one when one decides to trust Christ for salvation by faith.

So, time is a most important commodity.  Even though most people think it will never end, the Bible says that, like everything else, it is temporary and will not last forever.  One day everyone will leave history and enter eternity.  Life is terminal for all.  A person will enter the dimension where time does not exist.  It is no longer a factor.  But, we decide where we will spend eternity while we are locked into time and history.  Every person is faced with a decision.  Where will they live forever in eternity.  Will it be in heaven with the Lord where one is forever living.  Or will it be in hell where one is forever dying.  It’s your choice while you still have some time.
