The owners of Kickers Pizza Bar hope to promote racial harmony by having an event that will encourage children of all races to play together at a Nerf Wars Pizza Party.
Kids usually get along and make friends easily, said Chad McNair, owner of the family-run Kickers Pizza Bar, 2925 Peach Orchard Rd. He added that the business is sponsoring the event to build on that openness to others.
The Nerf Wars Pizza Party is a free-admission event, which will be at the restaurant from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22.

Families will need to bring their own Nerf guns and foam bullets. Face shields are encouraged. There are some guidelines for the event. No head shots will be allowed, and no real weapons are allowed on the property. Food and drink will be sold, and no coolers will be allowed.
McNair and his wife, Snooks Kernaghan McNair, who works in the restaurant with him, often have promotional events for families at the restaurant. They have hosted kid play days and tug of war events as well as a New Year’s Eve party this year.
They have also had food drives to support families.
“This event is a Nerf War Day where kids can bring all their Nerf guns and play. Not all families have multiple children, and it can get very boring for an only child, so they can come to this event and play/socialize with other kids their age,” McNair said.

Another goal of the event is keeping children healthy.
“We want to help keep children active in the outdoors while helping them to meet new friends to play with,” McNair said.
They will have indoor activities for the children as well on Saturday – as they have in the past.
McNair said, “The kids love it here. When they come to eat dinner, they are able to play with other children, whether it be playing pool or drawing at a table or even singing karaoke.”
After the Nerf Wars wrap up at 6 p.m., the restaurant will be having family karaoke.
“We try to focus on the food and fun for the kids. We have four young children ages 5, 7, 10 and 12. It (having events like this) started with us trying to entertain them while we worked after they would get out of school,” he said. “Then, when other families would come in we would let their children join in on whatever our kids were doing, and it just kind of snowballed from there.”
As for the food, the restaurant has a variety of menu choices including build-your-own pizzas, breadsticks and cheesy sticks. The kids’ menu includes a 7-inch pizza as well as a pizza combo meal.
