Fatal fire in Aiken County under investigation

A fatal fire that occurred Friday in the Salley area of Aiken County is under investigation.

According to a press release from the Aiken County Coroner’s Office, a residential fire was reported at approximately 7:13 p.m. on July 5 on the five hundred block of John Nunn Highway.

The fire department and law enforcement responded to the scene, and after extinguishing the flames, the body of a male was found inside. Due to the extensive injuries on the body, authorities were not able to identify the victim. The body will be autopsied in Newberry to determine the cause of death and help with identification, the coroner’s office said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office and coroner’s office are investigation the incident.
