Date: December 02, 2024

Two elderly residents have been confirmed dead following a house fire early Sunday morning in the 4400 block of Etterlee Road in Blythe.

Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen confirmed the deaths of 80-year-old Carole Logan and her husband, also 80, Henry Logan. The couple was found inside their residence by firefighters while they were battling the blaze.

According to Augusta Fire EMA, firefighters responded to the scene around 12:38 a.m. Sunday after reports of heavy smoke and flames engulfing the home. Fire crews conducted a 360-degree assessment and initiated search and rescue operations. One occupant was able to escape the fire, but tragically, both Carole and Henry Logan were discovered inside the residence. They were pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 2 a.m.

In the course of firefighting efforts, a firefighter sustained minor burns and was taken to WellStar ER for treatment. The firefighter’s injuries are not life-threatening. The fire was fully extinguished, and the Red Cross was alerted to assist with any displaced individuals.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. An autopsy for the Logans has been scheduled.

The Augusta Fire Department extended their thoughts and prayers to the Logans’ family and wished a speedy recovery for the firefighter involved.
