A Hephzibah man is one of six defendants indicted in U.S. District Court for possessing guns during the commission of drug crimes, according to a news release.
Garland David Williams, 55, is charged with possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine and possession of a firearm during a drug trafficking crime.
“Illegally possessed firearms continue to present a challenge for law enforcement, including the increasing threat from guns illegally modified for fully automatic fire,” said Jill E. Steinberg, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia.

Project Safe Neighborhoods, a collaboration between federal, local and state agencies, has led to federal gun sentences for hundreds of defendants in the Southern District.
Williams was initially charged in Burke County with trafficking methamphetamine, possession with the intent to distribute meth from his Winter Road home and possessing a shotgun and rifle during the process.
It’s illegal for felons, undocumented aliens, illegal drug users and those committing a violent or drug trafficking crime to possess a firearm. It’s also illegal for prohibited persons to attempt to obtain one or to help those persons get a gun.
