Two area men with prior felony convictions face new charges in U.S. District Court for possessing guns.

Named in April 2023 federal indictments included Dustin Shane Webster, 30, of Augusta.

Webster, whose criminal history includes pointing guns at others and threatening to kill them, has undergone repeated mental health and competency evaluations. The federal indictment said he had a .38 Special revolver in his possession.

Joquan K. Clark, 25, of Waynesboro, also was indicted for possession of a firearm by a felon.

Clark has a first-offender conviction for robbery and was charged with theft by receiving a stolen gun last year. He was indicted for having a .40 caliber Smith & Wesson M&P.

The cases were brought in conjunction with the sheriff’s offices of Richmond and Burke counties.

“Individuals who are convicted of felonies are prohibited from possessing guns,” said Jill E. Steinberg, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia. “With our law enforcement partners, we will continue to protect the safety of our communities by identifying and removing these repeat offenders.”

Project Safe Neighborhoods is a collaborative effort by federal, state and local law enforcement agencies that has seen the arrest of more than 820 convicted felons for possession of guns in the last four years.
