FEMA opens additional disaster recovery center in Columbia County

FEMA has opened a disaster recovery center in Columbia County to provide one-on-one help for Georgians affected by Hurricane Helene.

Located in Evans at the Columbia County Emergency Management Agency, at 650 Ronald Reagan Drive, the center will be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday through Saturday, and from 1–6 p.m. on Sundays.

Additional centers will be open in the following areas:

  • Richmond County – Hub for Community Innovation, 631 Chafee Ave., in Augusta, Ga
  • McDuffie County – Thomson Depot, located at 111 Railroad St., in Thomson, Ga
  • Appling County – The Appling County Agricultural Center, located at 2761 Blackshear Highway, in Baxley, Ga
  • Bryan County – Jacob Grant Teen Center, located at 185 Ball Park Road, in Richmond Hill, Ga (closing permanently on Dec. 4)
  • Butts County – Butts Park & Recreation Building (Ernest Biles Youth Center), located at 576 Ernest Biles Drive, in Jackson, Ga (closing permanently on Dec. 13)
  • Chatham County – Savannah Technical College’s Student Enrichment Center Building, located at 5717 White Bluff Road, in Savannah, Ga
  • Coffee County – The Atrium, located at 114 N. Peterson Ave., in Douglas Ga
  • Emanuel County – Southeastern Technical College’s Special Programs Building, located at 346 Kite Road, in Swainsboro, Ga
  • Jefferson County – National Guard Bid-EOC, located at 1841 Highway 24 West, in Louisville, Ga
  • Laurens County – Old West Laurens Middle School, located at 338 West Laurens School Road, in Dublin Ga
  • Lincoln County – Lincoln County Recreation Department’s Walter T. Norman Gym, located 1962 Rowland-York Drive, in Lincolnton, Ga
  • Lowndes County – City of Valdosta, located 4434 North Forrest Street Extension, in Valdosta, Ga
  • Screven County – Screven County Library, located at 106 Community Drive, in Sylvania, Ga
  • Tift County – Tift County Swimming Pool, located at 202 Baldwin Drive, in Tifton, Ga
  • Toombs County – Georgia Department of Human Services, located at 162 Oxley Drive, in Lyons, Ga
  • Washington County – Sandersville School Building Authority, located at 514 North Harris St., in Sandersville, Ga
  • Wilkes County – Washington Fire Department’s Training Room, located at 212 E. Court St., in Washington, Ga

FEMA will also have mobile registration centers in several counties that will be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

“All centers are accessible to people with disabilities or access and functional needs and are equipped with assistive technology,” according to a press release from FEMA. “Disaster Assistance Teams are also on the ground in affected counties going door-to-door to help survivors register for assistance.”

With no appointment needed, homeowners and renters in Appling, Atkinson, Bacon, Ben Hill, Berrien, Brantley, Brooks, Bryan, Bulloch, Burke, Butts, Camden, Candler, Charlton, Chatham, Clinch, Coffee, Colquitt, Columbia, Cook, Dodge, Echols, Effingham, Elbert, Emanuel, Evans, Fulton, Glascock, Glynn, Hancock, Irwin, Jeff Davis, Jefferson, Jenkins, Johnson, Lanier, Laurens, Liberty, Lincoln, Long, Lowndes, McDuffie, McIntosh, Montgomery, Newton, Pierce, Rabun, Richmond, Screven, Stephens, Taliaferro, Tattnall, Telfair, Thomas, Tift, Toombs, Treutlen, Ware, Warren, Washington, Wayne, Wheeler and Wilkes counties can visit any open center to meet with representatives of FEMA, the State of Georgia and the U.S. Small Business Administration.
