Final week of advanced voting begins in Columbia County

This week is the final week of advanced voting in Columbia County for the Nov. 4 elections.

For the first two weeks of advanced voting, as of Saturday, Oct. 25, Columbia County had 3,227 residents cast ballots in-person and has sent out 332 ballots and received back 103 ballots.

Advanced voting will continue through Friday, Oct. 31 at Building G3 in Evans or the former Euchee Creek Library in Grovetown. After Friday, residents will have to wait until Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 4 to vote at their regular voting precinct.

Columbia County residents will see several items on their ballots, depending on where they live in the county, and not everyone will see every election. 

Columbia County Board of Commissioners District 2 special election

  • Jim Steed (Republican) and Howard W. Johnson V (Democrat) 

Public Service Commission race

  • District 2: Tim Echols (incumbent, Republican) and Alicia M. Johnson (Democrat) (statewide special election)
  • District 3: Fitz Johnson (incumbent, Republican) and Peter Hubbard (Democrat) (statewide special election)

Homestead exemption questions

  • Columbia County Homestead Exemption (Columbia County) question: Shall the Act be approved which provides a homestead exemption from Columbia County ad valorem taxes for county purposes in the amount of $8,000.00 of the assessed value of the homestead for residents of that county?
  • Columbia County Homestead Exemption (Board of Education): Shall the Act be approved which provides a homestead exemption from Columbia County school district ad valorem taxes for educational purposes in the amount of $8,000.00 of the assessed value of the homestead for residents of that school district?

City of Harlem election

Both the cities of Harlem and Grovetown will also have elections that can be voted on at the same time. The ballots are as follows:

  • Harlem for mayor: Roxanne Whitaker (incumbent)
  • Harlem for city council (vote for two): Joshua Brantley, Dustin Driggers and Tara McNaylor

City of Grovetown election

  • Grovetown for city council (vote for two): Sylvia C. Martin, (incumbent), Jacqueline Rivera-Player, Veronica Simpkins and Kay Turner

Upcoming election information

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 4 and voting will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the voters normal polling location. To find your polling location and to see a sample ballot, visit mvp.sos.ga.gov or call the Columbia County Board of Elections office at 706-868-3355
