Finalists named in Press Play Songwriter Competition

Date: August 17, 2022

The votes are in, and it’s time to prepare for the next phase of the Augusta Press’s inaugural Press Play songwriter contest.

Seventeen songwriters sent in MP3s of their best work in a variety of genre including rap, country, rock, beach and gospel. Over the past several weeks, readers have been voting for their favorite performers who will take the stage opening night of Arts in the Heart of Augusta Sept. 16.

Performers will get 20 minutes on stage to share not only the submitted song, but others in the repertoire.

Prior to Arts in the Heart, articles will be written on each of the finalists to give readers a glimpse behind the music into the performers themselves.

The six finalists (in no particular order) are “Forget About Me” by Dan Agnetti; “Do We Learn” by Priscilla Alexander; “Black Sky” by Baby Boi (Walter Santiago); “Deep Dark Hole” by Bryan Hatch; “Moving On” by Paul V. Gordon; and “Good Time for a Bad Idea” by Chris Hardy.

Thanks to everyone who entered and thanks to everyone who voted.
