Fires recently claimed the lives of three older adults in the CSRA and displaced 15 residents at a local apartment complex.
In Augusta, an elderly Augusta woman died Wednesday after suffering burns to over 80% of her body in a fire the same day at her home on Telfair Street.
Eugenia Gosdin, 82, was rushed to Doctors Hospital Burn Center, where she died Wednesday at 5:35 p.m., Coroner Mark Bowen said in a press release. Richmond County Fire Department is investigating the fire, but a witness said the woman was cooking when the fire ignited her clothes.
In Aiken County, the coroner’s office has released the names of two sisters who died in a Warrenville fire last Friday.
Leila Ann Gantt, 72, and Alice Gantt, 68, both died from smoke and soot inhalation as well as thermal injures, Coroner Darryl M. Ables said. Both women were at the home at 110 White Ash St. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, the coroner said.

Meanwhile, a separate fire on Wednesday night has displaced 15 residents at the Azalea Park Apartments on Fayetteville Drive in Augusta. The fire was reported around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday when firefighters found Building M engulfed in flames.
The residents escaped without injury and were being helped by the American Red Cross.
