The First Baptist Church of Evans at the bustling intersection of Belair and Washington roads is up for sale.
The three acres at 515 N. Belair Road, where the church is located, has been listed on digital real estate platform Crexi since Aug. 11.
In May of this year, the congregation of First Baptist of Evans merged with First Baptist Church of Augusta, at 3500 Walton Way Ext., after a vote by members of both churches. This effectively made the Evans members part of the Augusta church, and transferred ownership of the former’s property to the latter.
First Baptist of Evans started in 1930, and the current structure was built in 1980. Meybohm Commercial is representing the church as it offers the property, zoned C-2 Commercial, in a closed-bid auction.
The listing calls for offers via formal letters of intent by a deadline of Sept. 8, although any interested parties are welcome to present offers before then. A body called the First Baptist Evans Property Sale Committee is to review all the sealed bids on Sept. 9, then make a recommendation to the trustees of First Baptist of Augusta.
The trustees are then to select a bid and present it to the members of the church for approval.
