Richmond County authorities are crediting this year’s installation of over 50 Flock Safety cameras with solving homicides, recovering dozens of stolen vehicles and making multiple arrests.

The sheriff’s office installed 50 cameras this year between May and August, and they are already paying off.

“Flock Safety Cameras proactively prevent crime by sending a real-time alert to law enforcement when a stolen car or known wanted subject from a state or national crime database enters the jurisdiction,” a press release said.

Zone commanders and the agency’s intelligence division identified areas of concern that were statistically high for their rates of gun violence and put the cameras in these hot spot areas as choke points.

Since May 10, the Flock Safety Camera system has read approximately 5.5 million license plate tags. That has helped them solve two homicides and two armed robberies. The homicides were not specified in the press release. The agency has also recovered 38 stolen vehicles with 28 arrests in those cases for a total of $597,526, the value of the recovered vehicles.

“The Sheriff understands the value of integrating proactive technology to identify violent offenders, recover stolen property and solve criminal cases in real time. We still need the public’s assistance in addition to any technology we use to help fight and solve crime in our county,” the press release said.

Here is a breakdown of the arrests resulting from the cameras:
