Following a life long dream for a flower farm is what lead to the creation of Annie B’s Farm.
Started by Annie Goble in March of this year, she and her husband, Zack, were looking for a rental property, but then decided to go ahead and give her flower farm a try. She knew nothing about starting a flower farm except what she read in books and watched on YouTube.
“We brought in compost, we tilled,” she said. “Surprisingly, the soil here was fantastic. We sent it off and then we began planting. We still don’t know what we’re doing, but again, it’s just been so much fun. I’ve just really loved it, I’ve loved everybody coming up, especially with the water tower my husband built. No one knew what it was going to be and we didn’t post it anywhere on social media what it was. It was really fun. I like building everything.”

Origins of the flower farm
As for why she wanted to start a flower farm, Goble said she’s always wanted to start one, but didn’t figure it out until she had gone to nursing school and graduated. But one night, around 3 a.m. when she was working, there was a conversation about what the nurses would be doing if they weren’t in nursing. She said she would have a flower farm.
“My husband was just like, well then why don’t we do it,” Goble said. “He’s been my rock through it all.”
Types of flowers sold
As for what type of flowers she sells, Goble said there are sunflowers, zinnia, gomphrena, different types of celosia, marigolds and more.
“I am growing pumpkins right now,” Goble said. “Hopefully those happen. It’s my first time growing them, and they say that it’s kind of hard to grow in Georgia, so fingers crossed. There might be some others out there soon”

Her favorite flowers are the celosia and sunflower, which is also a popular one with customers. Gomphrena is a favorite of her husband.
“I love the solacia so much,” Goble said. “It’s so different and it could just be by itself or you could dry it out too and it’s really gorgeous.”
Customers interested in purchasing flower can place an order online for either pick up or delivery, Goble said. If delivery is selected, there is a three-day policy about when the flowers will be delivered due to her nursing schedule. There is also a roadside stand where people can pick up some flowers and that relies on the honor system.

As for how the flower farm has been received, Goble said it’s been very positive. She greatly appreciates that because they are in in for the long haul.
“We’re going to do it even if we don’t sell anything,” Goble said. “This has been so nice for me. But yeah, the reception has been really fantastic.”
Since starting the flower farm, Goble said one of the biggest thing she’s learned is to not have grass in between the rows because of all the weeds. She’s also going to be more strict with herself when it comes to succession planting.

“I knew a little bit about it from the books, from the floret books, but I did not implement it like I should’ve,” Goble said. “But next year I’m going to be very strict on myself about it and hopefully there won’t be a lull or anything, I will have everything that I need whenever.”
Goble added that she couldn’t have accomplished anything without the support of her husband, parents, in-laws and friends.
