Downtown floral shop Flowers on Broad announced on its social media Monday that it would be moving to a new location on Greene Street in the coming months.

“We always wanted to stay downtown,” said owner Brent Slagle. “But we had grown to a point where we were just too large for the space we were in.”

Slagle recently purchased the new building, located at 1030 Greene St., which had been owned by a friend of his.

“I told her I would love to have a building, and she said we can talk about it,” said Slagle. “I wanted that space because that’s one of the first buildings that you see coming into downtown off of Calhoun Expressway.”

Expansion, convenience and the benefit of owning a property rather than paying rent were all factors in the decision to relocate, says Slagle. Flowers on Broad’s announcement boasts that the new building will have a larger showroom for the store, and encourages customers and followers stay updated on its renovation, which entails updating the building to a modern midcentury design.

The store first opened at its current location in April 2014. Slagle says little will change with the move, not even the name.

“The only thing that we may do is have a red slash through ‘on,’ and, in pencil letters, write ‘off’ on the side, for a little bit of humor,” Slagle said. “But as far as legally, we’re not going to change any names.”

Flowers on Broad is hoping to move to Greene Street by late May or early June. Slagle says he is particularly looking forward to the space’s higher visibility and accessibility for customers.

“It’s mainly the parking,” he said. “The ease of going in and out, for us as well as our customers. We’re going to be a lot more visible for the people looking for us.”
