The health inspection world grades a score below 70 as failing, and one restaurant receive a failing score from inspections conducted on Oct. 27–31.
Worst scores in this week’s health inspection
This week’s lowest health inspection score was a 69 earned by Bill’s Family Restaurant, located at 2518 Peach Orchard Road, in Augusta.
During the inspection, the inspector noticed an employee cup out, and deducted four points from the health score.
“Observed employee soda in cup not in employee designated area,” the report stated. “All employee personal belongings including food must be stored in designated employee area.”
The inspector also reported finding food improperly stored, resulting in four more points being docked from the health score.
“Observed multiple food items (tomatoes cut, onions, ham) in reach in coolers not covered and food items in steam table and counter tops not covered,” the report stated. “Ensure all food items remain covered to prevent contamination.”
The inspector deducted an additional nine points for noticing more food improperly stored.
“Observed pancake batter held at 78 F on countertop,” the report stated. “Cold holding [temperature control safety] food should be kept at 41 F or below.”
The inspector docked another seven points for noticing no labels on food inside the facility, and deducted another point for the kitchen having debris on the floor.
“Observed food debris on floor throughout kitchen,” the report stated.
The second lowest score of the week was a 73 given to a Habaneros Mexican Grill, located at 200 East Milledgeville Road, in Harlem.
The inspector deducted nine points for noticing food improperly stored.
“Observed large pot of ground beef in 3-door reach-in-cooler having been cooked/cooled yesterday with temp of 62 plus degrees,” the report stated. “Must cool 135 to 70 in 2 hours and 70 to 41 degrees in 4 more hours. must cool in shallow pans with ice bath.”
During the inspection, the inspector deducted four more points for noticing untrained employees.
“Training required for kitchen staff on safe food handling,” the report stated.
The inspector deducted another four points for the witnessing items in the handwashing sink.
“Observed bottle jug in the hand sink. Do not put anything in the hand sink except your hands,” the report stated.
Another four points were deducted from the health score for more improper food storage practices.
“Observed no dates on any food items,” the report stated. “Must date all prepared foods.”
Finally, a final four points were ducted from employees not wearing proper food safety gear and not changing gloves often.
“Kitchen employee must wear a hat,” the report stated. “Change gloves often [especially] after raw meat.”
Following the Mexican grill’s inspection, the third lowest score of the week was a 76 given to a local K&J Soulbar and Grill, located at 720 East Robinson Ave., Suite 101-102, in Grovetown.
The inspector deducted four points for a lack of required paperwork being up to date and on site.
“Observed expired CSFM certificate. Obtain new CSFM certificate within 30 days.” the report stated. “Observed incomplete employee health agreements. Update so each employee has an employee health agreement. Bring new agreements in one week.”
During the inspection, the inspector deducted four more points for improper handling of food.
“Observed food in steam well at pass thru window sitting out uncovered,” the report stated. “Keep all food covered to prevent accidental contamination.”
An additional nine points were deducted for the inspector finding food improperly stored.
“Observed rice in hot hold warmer at 92 degrees F for hot holding,” the report stated. “Repair warmer or move food to another warmer for hot holding above 135 degrees F.”
Another point was docked from the establishment’s health inspection score due to cleaning equipment being left out.
“Observed mop sitting in sink to dry,” the report stated. “Hand mop to air dry to avoid mildew buildup.”
