Other entries on his resume include businessman, author, bobsledder and mixed martial artist.
“He’s overcome a lot of obstacles to be successful. He grew up in rural south Georgia in poverty and worked hard,” said Adrienne Patterson, resource development director for the Boys and Girls Clubs of the CSRA.
While Walker will be the featured speaker, the stars of the program will be members of the Boys and Girls Clubs, said Patterson.
“A main chunk of the program is the Q&A with the kids,” she said.
The thrust of the GREAT Futures event is to raise awareness about the organization.
Patterson said she’s worked with the organization for six years. She can talk about all the programs it offers, but when it comes from an actual member, it’s more effective.

GREAT Futures started in 2016 to commemorate the organization’s 65th year in Augusta with former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice as its guest speaker.
“She’s a member of the national Boys and Girls’ Club’s board of governors,” Patterson said.
The event was well-received, and although it was supposed to be one night only, people were interested in the organization making it an annual occurrence. Other speakers have included Deion Sanders and Dabo Swinney.
The Boys and Girls Clubs of the CSRA provides programming to 3,900 children in Richmond, McDuffie and Washington Counties each year. In addition to the five locations, there are club programs in two area schools.
The event will begin with a VIP reception at 5:30 p.m. followed by the program at 7 p.m. at the Augusta Convention Center. Individual tickets are $250 with sponsorships beginning at $2,500. Patterson said no tickets will be sold on the night of the event.
