‘Truly remarkable’

“It is a bitter, bittersweet honor,” said current board member Venus Cain about having the chance to publicly uplift Padgett’s memory. She called Padgett a “truly remarkable individual.”

Tuesday would have been Padgett’s 86th birthday. A wife, mother and grandmother, this year would have also marked her 64th wedding anniversary.

Cain said that she and others had the opportunity to observe Padgett and her husband’s impact directly.

“Charlie Hannah and I had the honor of personally serving alongside Mrs. Padgett and Mr. Padgett during their tenure on the board and witnessed firsthand their dedication and unwavering commitment to the Richmond County School System,” Cain said.

Padgett’s family is set to receive a framed, written proclamation from the school board, recognizing her for her efforts and time within the district.
