Georgia Governor Brian Kemp has chosen Bobby Christine to be the first District Attorney for the newly-created Columbia Judicial Circuit.
Christine said that as a lifelong Columbia County resident, this is a calling for him. “I have been a prosecutor my entire career, as an assistant district attorney, in the military, and then as U.S. Attorney,” said Christine.
Christine served as then district attorney and now Judge Danny Craig’s chief deputy in the Columbia County office. He is also a judge advocate general in the United States Army National Guard. He served more than three years as U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia.
Former Augusta Judicial Circuit District Attorney Natalie Paine confirmed she and Christine have spoken and she will be his chief deputy, the number two position in the office. Paine said she is ready to hit the ground running.
“I can get back to what I do best, trying cases and handing out justice,” she said.
Christine’s term will begin July 1. It will run until December 31, 2022.
