Four former Richmond County deputy jailers indicted for smuggling contraband into jail

Four former Richmond County Sheriff’s deputy jailers fired in December on suspicions of smuggling in contraband for inmates have been indicted.

The most serious and most numerous charges were filed against JaQuan T. German, 24. Tuesday, March 8, the Richmond County grand jury named German and three inmates, who are also suspected gang members, in a 16-count indictment that accuses them of conspiracy, violation of the state’s Street Gang Terrorism Prevention Act and bribery.

German is accused of conspiring with alleged Loyalty Over Everything gang members Kevin Hanna, 31, Charles B. Gillians III, 34, and Lyondo L. Ware, 41, to bring into the jail methamphetamine, synthetic marijuana and oxycodone in exchange for cash between Nov. 21 and Dec. 11, 2021.

German is named in one count of possessing 31 oxycodone pills and 15 sheets of synthetic marijuana, known as K2, with the intent to bring to jail inmates on Dec. 12. German faces multiple counts of violation of the gang statute, too, as well as a charge of violation of oath by public officer.

Davion R. Deboskie, 22, was indicted on charges of violation of oath by public officer and violation of the state’s Street Gang Terrorism Prevention Act. He is accused of bringing tobacco for inmate Ware between Nov. 14 and Dec. 11, 2021 for cash.

Hunter L. Piper, 24, and Gabriella O. Anthony, 23, are also named in separate indictments of violation oath by public officer and crossing guard lines with contraband late last year. Piper is accused of bringing in an “unauthorized item,” and Anthony is accused of bringing an inmate batteries and pictures.

The deputy sheriffs were fired last year after an investigation at the jail began with reports of cell phones and other contraband. The department conducted searches of the entire jail finding numerous contraband items as well as shanks, homemade knives.

The four indicted Tuesday, March 8 were previously granted bond and released from custody.
